Dabbs to Headline School Impact 2010
3/3/10

Reggie Dabbs was born to humble beginnings. His biological mother was an unwed teen who considered getting rid of her “problem” before finding herself living in a chicken coop in Louisiana. Fortunately for Reggie, instead of ending her pregnancy, his mother sought the help of a former teacher from Tennessee, Mrs. Dabbs. Mrs. Dabbs and her husband eventually adopted Reggie, and now he travels the world telling his story of hope and tackling any setback that may come your way.
Trinity Assembly of God Youth Pastor Scottie Adams said Decatur County’s Minister Alliance will sponsor Reggie during the 2010 School Impact program next week.
Adams met Reggie Dabbs at a youth camp last summer and invited him to Decatur County.
“Reggie is a lot of fun,” said Adams. “The kids are going to really enjoy hearing him speak.”
Reggie began his public speaking career in 1987, and now speaks to hundreds of thousands of students across the nation, at schools in places like Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Carolina and Ohio. He has even had the opportunity to speak recently in New Zealand and Australia.
Reggie will be visiting area schools in Decatur, Perry and Henderson Counties next week. He will make stops at Decatur County Middle School and Riverside High School where he will present an assembly focused on choices—the same types of choices he made when he was growing up. Kids can choose not to do drugs, not to drink, not to smoke, not to have sex. Reggie also emphasizes the importance of family and the values instilled in him in youth. Reggie lets kids know “You can never change your past, but you can change your future.”
Reggie is also an accomplished saxophone player and often plays during assemblies. He began in the sixth grade and initially hated playing the instrument, but at his parents’ urging continued to practice and now enjoys playing. He lives in Fort Myers, Florida, with his wife Michele and son Dominic.
An Area-Wide Youth Rally will be held Sunday, March 7 at 6 pm at Trinity Assembly of God in Decaturville. Reggie, who is also a youth evangelist, will preach at the Rally. All area youth groups are invited.
A Community Wide service will be held on Wednesday, March 10 at 6:30 pm at Decatur County Middle School. Middle and high school students will be eligible for door prizes and giveaways. Prizes include cash, an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP and more.
