CLIFTON AREA MAPS HAVE ARRIVED
The Chamber has a limited number of maps of Clifton and adjoining parts of Wayne, Hardin, Decatur and Perry Counties. If you would like a map please contact us. New Clifton Chamber of Commerce Office located at 122 Main.
Clifton has been transformed over the last decade. Visitors will appreciate the natural beauty of Clifton's riverside location providing a powerful draw for visitors and new residents. New businesses providing fresh job opportunities have moved into Clifton or to nearby areas. Commercial establishments have come back to the central part of town, moving back into the old buildings or building attractive new facilities. Attractive lighting now lines the sidewalks that have been rebuilt to look better than they ever did in the past.
Ross Creek State Park & The Bear Trace Golf Course
While you are in Clifton, visit Ross Creek State Park, which hosts one of the finest public golf courses in the state. Ross Creek Landing is an eighteen hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus as part of The Bear Trace. The course is located adjacent to Hassell Field Airport and is only a short distance from the Tennessee River.
The Bear Trace at Ross Creek Landing is the fifth in a series of Jack Nicklaus designed courses located in the state of Tennessee. Ross Creek Landing is located in the rolling countryside in Clifton, Tennessee along the banks of the Tennessee River.
Ross Creek Landing is a par 72 course that measures more than 7000 yards from the back tees. Don't be intimidated though, there are five sets of tees on every hole to allow golfers of all abilities to enjoy this course. During the construction and design of this course, Jack made some adjustments to shorten two of the par fives so that the golfer may have the opportunity to reach the green in two shots. He also designed the par 4 fourth hole into a 'drivable' par 4 that offers a variety of 'go for it' and 'lay up' options.
The course offers a variety of wooded and meadow golf holes. Oak, Hickory, Hackberry, Cedar and even some Cypress line the fairways. Marshes and ponds have been created to benefit the environment and provide strategy on some of the golf holes. During the construction of the course, special efforts were made to preserve stream corridors and existing woods and meadows. New grades for the golf course were carefully tied into these existing features so that it appears that the course has always been here.
A scenic overlook bound by a beautiful stone wall offers another great view of the river. Picnic tables are also available for the public to use. Iron Gates now adorn the ramp that served as the access to the Clifton Ferry, which for decades offered passengers the only local opportunity to cross the river by automobile. The ferry closed in 1998 when a new bridge provided a more modern mode of transportation.
Just across the street from this overlook is a Gazebo which provides shade on hot summer days. While at this location, don't miss the opportunity to stroll down Main Street and enjoy the sites of the City's largest sidewalk and landscaping project.
The City's newest facility is the Clifton Recreational Park. It offers three ball fields for community use. The project has been brought together by a collection of donations from local businesses and organizations, state grant funding, and city funding.
Additional property is owned at this site which the City hopes to one day convert into tennis courts, walking trails, and soccer fields. While everyone is invited to enjoy this beautiful park, the City is especially proud to host Dixie Youth and Frank Hughes School teams at this site.
Groups interested in reserving the Park Pavilion or the Gazebo for special events are encouraged to contact City Hall. Both facilities are reserved based upon the order in which the requests are received. There is no charge for the use of either of these facilities.
